Sick...Again
For the past week we all have been sick. Carter had it the worst last weekend, having a fever for about three days and a nasty cough. Tyler has a very low fever one day, but that was it. Justin was sick all last weekend with a fever and cough as well. Because of that the boys didn't get to sing at church on Sunday with their classes. They also missed school on Monday. They seemed to handle it pretty well however. On Wednesday night I got sick and on Thursday it felt like I had two black eyes from all the sinus pressure. Luckily I am feeling better now, and Justin was off on Thursday which gave me the much needed rest I needed. We are most happy about the fact that so far it seems that Nolan didn't get any of the sickness that has been floating around. He is a little stuffier and somewhat fussier, so while I don't think he is feeling 100% he hasn't had a fever and no cough - thank the Lord!

House of Sickness
Since the Wednesday before Thanksgiving all of us have been sick at some point until today. Fun time I tell ya. We were suppose to go and enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner at Todd's house. However on Wednesday I was feeling bad and by Wednesday night I knew we couldn't make it. We called and canceled. This actually turned out to be a good thing as on Thursday Tyler and Carter both got sick. We laid low all weekend and it seemed that on Sunday night everyone was feeling well so we went to church/school on Monday.
About halfway through my work day , Carter was having some more symptoms so I had him be with me in the office for the rest of our time there. When we got home he seemed fine again, as he did Tuesday morning so I brought both boys to school and Nolan and I enjoyed a coffee date with a high school friend. As soon as we got home from school both boys started having symptoms again. So we stayed home Wednesday, as did Justin as he started feeling bad that night as well. On Wednesday night Carter got sick yet again so all the boys stayed home another day while I enjoyed MOPS. So far so good today. Everyone finally seems to be feeling all the way better. Thank goodness!!

Nana, Bapa, Noah, and Croup
In the middle of the night however Carter woke up to another coughing fit and with this one I knew he had croup . So in the morning we headed to the doctor. Luckily his oxygen levels were fine and he didn't have a fever at all. They gave him a prescription for some steroids and gave us the ok to have breakfast with Nana , Bapa, and Noah before they headed home and we said our goodbyes. Carter is already feeling better today, with no coughing last night at all. Even though Carter was sick, we still had a lot of fun with Nana, Bapa, and Noah!

Sick Boy
All last week Carter had a little bit of a cough. It got pretty bad Thursday afternoon so I took him in just in case. They determined he had RSV and possible pneumonia. If his fever went up anymore (it was up to 102) then we were to come back in for chest x-rays. Luckily the fever went away and never came back. Also he is on breathing treatments and he is taking those very well and those seem to help a lot. Since he no longer has a fever and has had his cough for so long, he is no longer contagious so we went to church today. He had a great day and hardly coughed at all! While we were in the waiting room at the doctor's I had him wear a mask. He loved wearing it and continued to wear it wherever he went. The picture is at King Soopers where we stopped to get his inhaler on the way home.

Sick Week
This has been a crazy week in the Pederson house. Besides celebrating Tyler's birthday we have been dealing with a couple of sick boys. First Tyler got the stomach bug on Saturday night into Sunday morning. By Sunday night however he was feeling fine so off to church we went. After coming home from church on Monday and after naps Carter got the stomach bug. By Tuesday morning he too seemed better so we headed off for Tyler's birthday celebration.
When we got back from Red Robin that night, while we were eating cake, Carter was
acting very tired. I figured it was just because it was so late and from all the sugar. We went to church the next morning and everything seemed fine. Except at church Carter wouldn't eat all day and just seemed sad. As soon as we got home he got sick again. So I stayed home Thursday, and he was just fine. I think we are officially over it. However the after effects are not. Tyler has now become terrified of becoming sick (it was quite the process on Saturday night) and anytime his tummy hurts he gets very upset thinking he will be sick again. I am hoping the terrified phase will be over soon and we can get back to our healthy happy family.

Another Reason for Raincoats
Carter got sick a couple more times Saturday night, but was fine by breakfast time Sunday. Last night I got it. I am hoping that I will be feeling better soon. But for all of you without children yet..invest in raincoats.

Sick Day
On Sunday I went to Elitches with Heather, so it was a boys day at home. The boys had a fun day with daddy. They watched a lot of football and ate hot dogs for lunch and for dinner. Carter decided that he would take off his pull-up and go poop on the floor and Tyler decided that he would just have accidents all day. Justin still says it was a good day .
Tomorrow is Tyler's 3 year well check-up at the doctors. I am hoping that he can finally stop drinking whole milk and that the pediatrician will have some ideas with his sleeping and his anger issues of late. Tyler has always been a very intense child when it comes to his emotions. Now when he doesn't like something he gets mad and throws things, hits me, and yells at me. Obviously we don't allow this behavior and he gets disciplined, but I would like some ideas of how to give him ways to express his anger in an acceptable manner. Also I know part of the intensity is from the sensory stuff, I just don't know how much of it. Of course along with his appointment he will also have to get his blood drawn, wish us luck!

Sick again....
Carter has been coughing on and off the past couple days and had a small fever yesterday. When he woke up from his naps his eyes also looked a little swollen and pink. He has been very irritable and not eating either so after Tyler's OT appointment we headed to the pediatrician (I really think we should be able to buy season passes or something at this rate). So no ear infection, but a sinus infection which is draining into his eye. He is now on amoxicillin and will hopefully be his happy self tomorrow.
Tyler is continuing to talk up a storm at the nursery lately. I am trying to decide if I should ask to be out of his room or not. I love being in his room so I can watch him and see how he is doing myself. The other teachers always tell me how he is doing, but you never really know. I also just love his room and like to be in there if he is in there or not. However sometimes I wonder if its hurting him more if I am in there with him. When I am with him he is more likely to have his meltdowns and to only talk to me. Although today they needed to bring him to me so that I could give him some pressure hugs to calm him down. Also he seem to do more interacting with other kids when I am with him. Luckily my wonderful boss is all about whats best for Tyler so its pretty much my decision. Decisions, decisions.

Poor Little Guy
One of those Days
Its been one of those days. The days when the boys seemed to have lost their hearing. Tyler was in time out 5 times within 2 hours of waking up. I even put Carter in time out twice. They just can't saty away from the dog bowl. First they put the dog food in the dog's water. After that was cleaned up they decided to put their magnets in the water. Then they thought they should just splash in the water. I can undertsand Carter doing this. He s 15 months and exploring his boundaries, but Tyler. He has known the dog bowls are off limits for months now, but it's one of those days I guess. On top of all this, Tyler refused to clean up countless times throughout the morning.
I was hoping with Tyler having speech today it would improve with his behavior - nope. We were having his quarterly evaluation today, which means a lot of paperwork and going over his stengths and weeknesses. Becuase of this his therapist didn't bring her toys for Tyler to play with. So I got out the rice table thinking that would keep the boys occupied. 5 minutes later I had a pound of rice all over my floor. I put the rice table away and get out some of Tyler's favorite toys - he decided to throw them everywhere and Carter thought this also looked like fun. What a mess. Tyler finally cleaned up after everyone left so he could have lunch.
What a morning - I am so glad its nap time. Although nap will be cut short so I can take Carter to the doctor. For the past few days he has had a very mucousy cough. At first I contributed it to cutting some teeth (his top two 1 year molars popped thru on Saturday). I thought since he was drooling more, maybe all that created the cough. But since its still lingering we are going in to make sure its nothing else and we are ok to go to church tomorrow. I am already for tomorrow to be here!
A little speech update - Tyler is doing very well. We have new goals to work on before June, when he will transition out of the birth to three program and we find out if he qualifes for the preschoool program or not. We really want to work on his social/emotional skills. We would like to see him interacting with peers more, and also relating his needs to others besides Justin and me and outside of the home setting. We are also going to set up a sensory consult to make sure everything is ok there. This is more precautionary than anything, but we are trying to rule everything out before June. I am already nervous about June and the decsions we will have to make for Tyler. Hopefully some of these issues will be resolved by then.

If only the boys were at daycare...
Why I would love to have the day just to stay in bed, that not why I wish my boys were at daycare right now. You see if they were at daycare they would be doing activities, being with friends, doing anything but what we did today:
Tyler woke up at 6:30 with Carter followed closely behind at 7:00. Finally at 8 I got up enough stomach to make them breakfast. And it was a pretty sad breakfast - toast and a banana. So we go upstairs and change diapers. Not into regular clothes, its a stay in your pjs kind of day. Tyler feels like playing hide and seek so I bribe him to go downstairs to watch a movie.
I put in Cars. The boys have never watched all of a movie this long. The longest amount they have ever watched is a full hour of Sesame Street and that is very rare. But we all settle on the couch to watch Cars. Very enlightening for them no? At first it seems pretty nice, we are all cuddling on the couch together enjoying the movie.
However then the boys decide to go and play, but I decide to stay on the couch - not what would be happening at daycare. A little while later Carter comes toddling from the guest room
with something in his hand. GLASS!!! I quickly jump off the couch, grab it out of his hand and go into the guest room. There in the corner of the room is a shattered candle holder. I clean up the glass, vacuum the room and think that was a close call.
So as I settle back onto the couch (hey I am sick) Tyler is saying "wed" and pointing at his toes. So why is there red stuff all over his toes..and his hands. Yep it was blood. Blood everywhere. I scoop him up and go into the bathroom and clean him off. Luckily it was just a minor cut on his thumb that he didn't even know he had. He still thinks his "boo boo" is on his toe.
So if only the boys were at daycare I wouldn't feel so bad. Feel bad that I have yet to get on the floor to play with them. Feel bad that I just don't have the energy today to make them more than a pb&j with grapes for their lunch. Feel bad that I have already canceled tomorrows playgroup because I don't want anyone else to get sick.
Oh well tomorrow is another day and hopefully tomorrow I will once again know that they are better off with me. I read once when it comes to children and mommy's guilt that a mom needs to forgive herself because her children already have. So enjoy the pictures of my sleeping angels, giving me the break I need yet may not deserve today.
*Just a note to say that Justin did offer to come home, but like I said I am not doing horribly by any means and since this is their busy season I told him to stay.
