Hamming it Up

Everyone loves Carter at church. The love Tyler too, but he had that whole biting problem and has a complete different personality. Carter goes up to all the workers and give them hugs every morning. He likes to hold the staff's hands. He loves to make everyone laugh.

When I drop him off in the morning he is happy to go right into his classroom. In fact he usually runs into the room. This in itself puts a smile on the staff's face. But then he giggles, talks to them, has them chase him around the room, and gives them the sweetest smile. They crack up when he eats his lunch, as he always eats everything I send and is usually double fisting.

When they go out to the playground he sees me from outside the fence and always give a little wave and points proudly telling everyone that that is his mom. He then runs and gives his big brother a big hug. Everyday the whole playground does a collective "awww".

At the end of the day, since he is usually one of the last to be picked up, he is usually playing and running around the room. He then runs to me and I get a big hug. I then always get a good report on how well he did. Carter then helps me bring the keys back to the office everyday (Tyler gets to carry the radio back). He hands them to my boss and always needs to give her a big hug. He is Mr. Popular at the nursery - but really how could anyone resist him?

Sunday School

Tyler is definitely growing up. He tells us at least three or four times a day that "I am big". He also lets us know that "Carter is little:. Today Carter informed me that he was big too. On Sunday they made it official. Tyler no longer goes to the nursery during church service - he now goes to his Sunday School class. A class in a whole new room, with teachers that are volunteers - none of which that Tyler knows. A class where it is all centered on learning about God. No free play or videos like there are in the nursery.

He loved the class, the crafts he made and the color sheets they did. He was nervous when we first got there, but as soon as he saw the lego's he was fine with mommy and daddy leaving. We get to help out in his class next week and I can't wait!

Tyler was also suppose to move up to a new class today. Unfortunately he woke up with a fever so that will be held off until Wednesday. Usually on Mom's Morning Out (MMO) days he is in room 230 with me. He is moving up to room 237 (where he is on MOPs days). The difference between the rooms is that on MMO days 237 is taught like a preschool. They learn to write their names, learn their letters, shapes, numbers, etc. This also means I won't have either of my children in a class with me - I don't remember the last time that happened. I shouldn't get used to it though, Carter will be moving up to room 230 with me in a short couple of months. They sure are getting big.

Sick again....

Carter has been coughing on and off the past couple days and had a small fever yesterday. When he woke up from his naps his eyes also looked a little swollen and pink. He has been very irritable and not eating either so after Tyler's OT appointment we headed to the pediatrician (I really think we should be able to buy season passes or something at this rate). So no ear infection, but a sinus infection which is draining into his eye. He is now on amoxicillin and will hopefully be his happy self tomorrow.

Tyler is continuing to talk up a storm at the nursery lately. I am trying to decide if I should ask to be out of his room or not. I love being in his room so I can watch him and see how he is doing myself. The other teachers always tell me how he is doing, but you never really know. I also just love his room and like to be in there if he is in there or not. However sometimes I wonder if its hurting him more if I am in there with him. When I am with him he is more likely to have his meltdowns and to only talk to me. Although today they needed to bring him to me so that I could give him some pressure hugs to calm him down. Also he seem to do more interacting with other kids when I am with him. Luckily my wonderful boss is all about whats best for Tyler so its pretty much my decision. Decisions, decisions.

The Wheels on the Bus

I have come to terms with Tyler's (and Carter seems to be headed down the same path) oral fixation. He is a very oral child, always has been - remember the biting problem? So I have now taken off every rubber wheel that is on any of his cars, trucks, or buses. Mostly I did this because I was tired of calling the pediatrician saying that he once again swallowed a wheel. Do all kids do this?On another note - Tyler's speech therapy. I was talking to his coordinator yesterday how I think his speech is going great, but I am concerned about some of his other quirks. He still does not answer yes to a question or even nod his head. If you ask him do you want to go outside, yes or no, he will either answer "outside" or "yes or no". It seems to me that he also does not process questions, although maybe most 2 year old don't do this either I am not sure. But if I ask him what he had for breakfast 5 minutes after he finished eating he will make something up - usually pizza since that's his favorite. We have been going to the church nursery for a year now and Tyler still does not talk to any of the staff or engage with the kids (except for Carter now). I can understand if he is shy, but I would think he would interact some. He also has no coping skills. We were eating tacos last night and his came apart and he couldn't control himself. He totally lost it. Is this normal or do most 2 year olds have coping skills? I don't know. So we were going over these quirks with his coordinator and Tyler may be getting more services now since there could be more there.

When I went to pick up Tyler from his classroom today I was informed that he was saying yes. They asked him if he wanted to do his craft and he said "yeah" and went and sat down! I was then talking to some other staff and they were saying that he does talk to them when he needs help. He will say "help me please" over and over until someone can help him. So he does talk to others - just not one on one with people. I guess that's not so much of a quirk, huh? It will be interesting to say the least at his speech appointment on Tuesday.

Back to Work

Tomorrow I go back to work. I am a supervisor in a church nursery and the boys come with me. Its a great deal as I get paid and get free child care on top of it all. I play with kids all day and get adult interaction. However Tyler has a little problem. O.k. a big problem - biting. He likes to bite when kids take his toys, when kids sit on him, and when he just feels like biting. However we do not allow biting in the nursery. So I took the month of October off to see if that would help the problem. Tomorrow I go back to work.

Part of me is excited. I am excited to have that adult interaction during the day. To see the kids again, to have a break from the boys and the boys from me. I am also somewhat hopeful that Tyler will be better. We went once last week to sub for someone and he did an awesome job. However tomorrow I really go back to work.

I have so enjoyed this time with the boys. We went to playgroups, did crafts, went to the park, all the things I cant do on days we go to work. It reminds me of the time, a little over a year ago, when I was at home with Tyler awaiting Carters arrival. I will always treasure that time Tyler and I had. Not to say that I don't treasure the times I have with both of them now. But that time when it was just Tyler and me and I wasn't working I will always hold close to my heart. We had new adventures everyday. I loved bringing him everywhere and he loved going everywhere. This month has been just like that - only now I have two. I love even running to the supermarket in the middle of the day and being told what cute boys I have. I love going to the park and watching them scream with delight on the swings. I love watching Tyler yell "Carter" and run up the stairs the minute he hears Carter awake from his morning nap. Tomorrow, once again this will not be my daily life - I go back to work.

I will miss all these things. But the boys love going to church and learning all sorts of things and I love working there. Justin and I have decided that I would also cut back my hours. I now will have 2 days home with the boys, sometimes more. Maybe now its the best of both worlds. I am going to treasure my days off and enjoy my days working. So tomorrow I go back to work.
